151: happy birthday
my mind creates connections from the loosest threads and forms strings of the most tenuous tangents. i notice the veins of a leaf, and before i can stop myself, a fading rainbow links me to the ant crawling up my shoe to the moon melting in my window to the smoke from passing cars outside. trees jump into my head and lead me to silver moths, roman aqueducts, sleeping bags and the smell of ocean water.
sometimes these connections aren’t quite as loose, which brings me to today’s post.
NPR music did a piece yesterday titled Cake Is Just A Four-Letter Word: Dylan Turns 70. this immediately made me think the song ‘friend is a four letter word’ by cake. (don’t worry, i promptly listened to fashion nugget in its entirety). then i started thinking about cake, which led me to birthdays. in my circle may is a month full of birthdays, so happy birthday to all the lovely may babies near and dear to my heart. (and a special shout-out to J who turned 30 today!)
